Provides reviews and ratings on movies, games, apps and books to help parents and educators make sense of media. In addition, your site can register to use their FREE  Parent Media Education Program. Topics covered include cyberbullying, social networking, sexting, video games, and more. 

 

Common Sense Media Education - Classroom Resources

Based on the work of Howard Gardner and the GoodPlay Project at Harvard, the curriculum uses case studies to emphasize critical thinking and decision making. Lessons are divided into three major topical strands: 1. Safety and Security, 2. Digital Citizenship and 3. Research and Information Literacy. It's FREE, but you must register as an educator to access the units.

*Net Cetera: Chatting with Kids About Being Online (English and Spanish!)

Unfortunately, this FREE guide for parents from the FTC is now only available online. However, if you're planning a presentation about kids' online safety, order a Net Cetera Community Outreach Toolkit, which includes a copy of Net Cetera and Heads Up, along with videos and other materials. In  addition, you can still bulk order copies of Living Life Online, a magazine-style booklet for teens, or Heads Up, a guide for tweens. Printed booklets can be ordered in bulk for FREE here.

NetSmartz Workshop 

This FREE interactive, educational program of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) is designed to help teach children ages 5-17 to be safer off and online. The site provides cyberbullying research and tips for parents, as well as, videos  about talking to your children about cyberbullying and protecting personal information.

This is a bimonthly e-newsletter offering parents and teachers tools to help kids, ages 9 -14, stay safer online. Primary focal areas include: social networking, wireless devices, gaming, cyberbullying and privacy. The site is also translated into Spanish.

This site is a public service from Internet corporations and contains a repository of instructional how-to video tutorials for parents. Videos range from setting your myspace or facebook profile to private, to setting your search engine to filter pornography, to activating your computer's security settings.

Posts a YouTube teaser video clip to encourage parents to attend meetings regarding digital citizenship and their children.

 

Net Cetera: Chatting with Kids About Being Online (Spanish and English!)

OnGuardOnline.gov's Net Cetera campaign from the Federal Trade Commission provides information and resources about helping kids make safe, responsible decisions when they're online. The campaign includes FREE parent handbooks, student handbooks and a presentation to use at a parent night. 

 

NetSmartz Workshop

Offers free, multimedia Internet safety presentations tailored for specific audiences — parents and communities, tweens, teens, and younger children. In addition they have many parent tip sheets to share.
